Peter Strasky was a North-Englander communications operator who served as the Dispatcher at Theta on PATHOS-II.

Description

Strasky is described by Sarah Lindwall as being a very friendly person in nature, liked by everyone.

Strasky appears to be a close friend of Dr. Catherine Chun, as she called him for help after Guy Konrad's suicide following his brain scan. In her notes on Strasky's brain scan, she described him as being cheerful and funny, at odds with the events described in Item #4520. Strasky also appears to be friends with the other dispatchers at PATHOS-II, including Raleigh Herber and Vigdis Jonsdottir.

Biography

Before Site Upsilon was evacuated, Strasky was informed by Vigdis Jonsdottir that Carl Semken and Amy Azzaro had been assigned to stay behind. He was warned that Semken and Azzaro had been advised to call him should they require assistance.

On May 4, 2103, Azzaro contacted Strasky several times from Upsilon, first to tell him that Carl was dead, and then from the shuttle station at Upsilon B, telling him she was heading to Theta, but first had to fix the power. Strasky advised Amy to just walk to Theta instead of dealing with the power. However, the audio was heavily corrupted and they could not hear each other.

On August 4, 2103, he had his scan for the ARK done, described in Item #4520. Following Guy Konrad's suicide, Catherine Chun asked him for help. Despite Catherine's pleading, he was forced to tell John Strohmeier about the suicide, who put the project on hold indefinitely.

Evacuating Theta

After the evacuation of Delta, Strasky consistently contacted Terry Akers about relocation to Theta, getting no response. On January 15, 2104, after nearly 5 months of silence, Akers called Strasky and told him he would like to relocate to Theta. Strasky was pleasantly surprised by this. A team, consisting of Maggie Komorebi and Shawn Evans among others, was surveying site Lambda at the time. Strasky asked them to travel to Delta and pick up Akers.

The next day, on January 16, 2104, Maggie Komorebi attempted to contact Strasky from Delta to warn him about Akers, who had attacked Komorebi's survey team and gotten on a zeppelin headed for Theta. Though Strasky received a signal and suggested trying a different access point, the malfunctioning LUMAR Annex at Delta couldn't transmit the audio.

Later, a gravely injured Akers was found alone on a zeppelin by Emma Alvaro and Brandon Wan. Strasky expressed his concern about the Komorebi survey team, but as he didn't know about the situation at Delta, he let Akers enter the site. Akers was eventually reanimated by the WAU and attacked the staff at Theta, leading to an evacuation order. Sometime on the same day, Raleigh Herber contacted Strasky from Omicron, telling him that she might not be around for a few days.

After escaping through Theta's maintenance level, the surviving staff members made their way to Omicron. When they arrived there, they were unable to gain access to the facility due to it being put under quarantine after the WAU overloaded the blackboxes of everyone stationed at the site. Strasky, faced with the prospect of certain death by suffocation or carbon dioxide poisoning after the oxygen supply in his Haimatsu Ductile Suit ran out, chose to remove his helmet and drown.

In SOMA

When calling site Theta from the comms center at Upsilon, Strasky's voice can be heard saying "There's something better here. It's here."

Strasky's corpse can be found outside of Omicron, with his fate being revealed after Simon Jarrett datamines his blackbox.

Behind the Scenes

In the original version of Item #2656 – "Vivarium" on the somasystems.org website, he was given the function of Machinist rather than Dispatcher. In the final version on somagame.com, not only was this Machinist function removed, but no reference to Strasky's function is made at all.

In the Theta manifestation video, Strasky's voice is noticeably different. Whether these were just placeholder lines and/or a different voice actor, or just an older iteration of the character, is unknown.
