We're all dying anyway. I'm all in. I put my faith in Sarang and the continuity.
― Robin Bass, making mention of Mark Sarang and his "continuity" belief process in her suicide note.[src]

Robin Bass was a D.C. American engineer who was a Field Service Technician on PATHOS-II, stationed at Theta. In SOMA, she was a believer in "continuity", committing suicide.

Biography[]

Robin Bass was born in D.C. America on December 10, 2072. In her quarters, her personal belongings give some information about her life before her position on PATHOS-II. There is a glass case with a flower inside, and a pot likely from a niece of hers with "For Auntie" written on the bottom.

There is also a family picture between a woman with black and blue hair and a man in a suit, with the woman possibly being the aforementioned niece who made the pot, or maybe even a younger Bass.

Scan[]

On August 26, 2103, Robin Bass committed suicide right after her brain scan , due to the "continuity" belief proposed by her colleague Mark Sarang, to ensure that her own self lived on within the ARK.

Item #4520 describes Robin's experiences while being scanned by Catherine Chun for the ARK. It also confirms that she slit her wrists with a straight razor to commit suicide, and not any other part of her body.

In SOMA[]

Near Theta's entrance, Simon Jarrett finds a mockingbird containing Robin's brain scan. The robot is in poor condition. Unaware of her real status, Robin explains that she committed suicide after her brain scan, and now believes herself to be living in the virtual reality of the ARK. Simon decides to maintain her illusion and conceals the truth of her current state.

Simon is then given the option to shut down the robot by unplugging the cable that feeds it with energy.

Inside Theta, Simon can explore Robin's living quarters, where he discovers that she committed suicide by cutting her wrist with a straight razor.

Dialogue[]

ARK Interview

  • At first I couldn't really see the point of it, but then I thought why shouldn't we, right?

  • I mean, if we're able to save even just a small piece of ourselves, why wouldn't we do that?

  • I think it's really important we do this.
